Spring is here! Which means summer is almost here!
I previously wrote about winter procrastination when we were starting to get really serious about getting the house ready to sell. Things are moving along pretty well. I think we can get the house ready by the end of March….which is only in a few days. We thought we’d have to wait longer for the companies we hired to do some outside work on the house, however they both came last week and power washed the house, deck and shed, cleaned and sealed the gutters and repaired and repainted some woodwork around the doors and windows.
We’ve trimmed the front bushes, replanted the window boxes, raked some remaining leaves from the backyard, mowed the front yard and swept and tidied up the garage. We’ve taken down the tree bands, painted some caulked/spackled areas on the walls, cleared appliances from the kitchen counter tops, reorganized two closets and spread the plants throughout the house.
I use the dining room as a sort of green house in the winter because it gets daytime sun, and it’s closed off during the day and night so the cat can’t eat the plants. In mid-April or the beginning of May, I move most of the plants outdoors where they thrive in the Charlotte heat. I have to wait until after April 15 to move them outdoors as this is the average date for the last freeze in this area. But the real estate agent said they look overwhelming in one room, so until I can put them outside they are spread throughout the house.
We had been trying to sell a piece of furniture on and off for at least a year. It was a blonde wood curio cabinet. I can’t remember where exactly I read about Move Loot, but we were able to sell the cabinet in under two weeks. Move Loot picked up the cabinet for free, cleaned it, took pictures and posted it online. We were able to set our own asking price. If we need to sell any other large pieces of furniture, I will definitely use them again. Currently, Move Loot is only in San Francisco, Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham and Atlanta.
Meanwhile, I’m enjoying watching everything bloom. The daffodils have bloomed and are already wilting away. The forsythia bushes have bloomed their yellow flowers and will soon be all green. Our cherry blossom tree is gorgeous and the daylilies are already coming up! I’ve also replanted the window boxes with pansies.
